On September 23, there was a seminar conducted by David Sutton (USA), doctor of psychology and religious sciences, for the managers of rehabilitation centers. The topic of the seminar was work with addicts and quality of leaders. We discussed together how to be a good leader and how not to burn out.
The main speaker of the seminar, dr. David Sutton has been an addict himself, for today he has been sober for 42 years. He is a doctor of psychology and religious studies, as well as a pastor and teacher. He has managed the Salvation Army and lead rehabilitation center, also have written many books. Throughout his life, his mission has been to teach and mentor the counselors who lead the ministry.
The workshop was co-facilitated by Lori Sutton, who has been teaching on counseling, inner healing, and grief subject for many years. Also, Bill Spetch, who is one of the teachers of the well-known program Celebrate Recovery. Bill is a recovered addict who has been free for 28 years. Since recovery, he has been counseling addicts, giving up his job in a government agency.
The seminar took place in Harkujärve Community Church. The leaders of 10 different organizations took part in it. On the next day of the seminar, the guests visited the Salvation Army Hope House and the Samaaria Haapsalu center.
